Calgary Stampede First Ever Rodeo Inducted into Hall of Fame

July 5, 2008

Calgary, AB --- The Calgary Stampede is honoured to announce its induction into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, held during the world’s richest, roughest Rodeo earlier today.

“Being inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame is a tremendous honour that we share today with our Stampede rodeo volunteers, employees, competitors, and the fans,” said Mike Whittle, vice-president, Agriculture and Western Events for the Calgary Stampede. “The induction recognizes our past efforts and provides motivation to continue to be recognized around the world as The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.”

Of the 16 rodeos being inducted into the Hall of Fame this year, the Stampede was the first to be inducted and the only Canadian member in the prestigious group that includes top rodeos from across the United States.

As the induction for the other 15 rodeos will take place at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame Museum in Colorado Springs, Colo., on July 12 during the final weekend of Stampede, special arrangements were made to induct the Stampede here today. Keith Martin, chairman of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association was in Calgary from San Antonio, Texas, to be part of the induction.

“I am humbled and honoured to be here today to welcome the Stampede as the first ever rodeo inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame,” said Martin. “We’re also especially grateful to the Stampede for sending their big wonderful stock down to the lower 48, most especially to the shows in San Antonio, Houston and Denver.”
