Beezie Imposes Judgement on EnCana Cup, Alois and Piet Electrify Evening of the Horse

September 5, 2008

Spruce Meadows, Calgary, AB --- With $100,000 on the line in today’s EnCana Cup, Beezie Madden (USA) and her champion stallion Judgement posted the day’s only double clear. Of the 27 entries only one other was able to master the Leopoldo Palacios (VEN) designed course to join Madden in the jump-off.

France’s Roger-Yves Bost was the fifth entry into the ring for the first round of the EnCana Cup, posting an early clear. The tight time allowed, 90 seconds over the 600m course, cost five entries a clear round. With only one to go Beezie Madden entered the ring, mastering the questions posed of the demanding course and joining Bost in the jump-off.

Bost made Madden’s day a little easier, having a rail in the jump-off. With a clear jump-off round Madden laid claim to her second International Ring victory of the week. Madden feels that her mount is in perfect form, “He likes the atmosphere here, it pumps him up a little bit. This is an impressive ring and he puffs up in here,” said Madden after her victory.

The fan favourite ATCO Electric Six Bar was challenged by 18 competitors, all looking to jump higher than their competitors. Two made it through to the final round Piet Raymakers (NED) and Alois Pollmann-Schweckhorst (GER). Neither could best their competitor, settling for a first place tie.

With a final height of 1.92 m Raymakers let his horse lead the way in the final round, “At the last fence I had to let him do the job, so I just let the reins go,” said Raymakers.

Co-champion Pollmann-Schwekhorst felt like his young horse proved himself tonight, “He’s 9 years-old, still green. This was his first time in a six bar and I didn’t want to scare him. He’s a scopy, brave horse,” said the German.

Tomorrow’s first International Ring competition, the $75,000 BP Cup, will begin at 10:15 am, followed by the $350,000 BMO Nations’ Cup which will begin at 1:50 pm. The $2 million Spruce Meadows “Masters” Tournament will continue through Sunday.
