Amanda Starbuck wins the Marshall & Sterling $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Derby at Old Salem

SAUGERTIES, NY --- Amanda Starbuck and Rio Bronco, owned by Stepping Stone Farm, took home the win in the $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Derby this past Sunday, at the Old Salem Horse Show in North Salem, New York.
Starbuck, a professional rider of Ridgefield, Connecticut, earned a score of 86 in the first round. Following Starbuck, Hero, with junior rider Sophie Cohen in the irons, took over the lead with an impressive score of 88 to set up a neck-to-neck second round.
In the second round, Starbuck was tenth to show, taking the lead with a score of 84 for a combined 170. Cohen was last to show, looking for the win; unfortunately, a second-round score of 50 would place her in seventh, allowing Starbuck to take home the blue ribbon.
Taking second place was Jennifer Padovani and Guapo, while Raquel Lopez and Asterix Z placed third.
The Devoucoux Hunter Derby has been one of the most exciting events on the 2010 show jumping calendar thus far, finding tremendous success this past winter at HITS Thermal and HITS Ocala. Due to the enormous response, HITS has chosen an elite group of Marshall & Sterling Horse Shows, of which Old Salem Farm was one, to host the Devoucoux Hunter Derby so riders may be able to continue to earn points towards the Marshall & Sterling League Finals, which takes place September 16 – 19 at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties.
HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York will host the next series of Devoucoux Derbies during its Spring Show Series which gets underway on Wednesday, May 26 and runs for three consecutive weeks until Sunday, June 13. The $10,000 Devoucoux Derby will be offered each week of the Spring Series, as well as during Weeks V and VI of the Summer Series. The Marshall & Sterling League was designed to enhance the level of competition for children and adult riders, with an opportunity to qualify for a prestigious National Finals competition. Now celebrating their 20th year, the Marshall & Sterling League features 14 divisions of competition. Riders who are members of the League have the opportunity to earn points throughout the year by competing in Marshall & Sterling classes in order to qualify for the Marshall & Sterling League Finals, which will be held this year from September 15-19 at HITS-on-the-Hudson in Saugerties, New York.
