Calgary Stampede Evening Show Promises The World
June 8, 2010
Calgary, AB --- The 2010 Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show entitled World Party promises to deliver an amazing spectacle of music, dance, comedy, stunt motorcycles and Cirque du Soleil acrobatics that merits the title The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth.
“This year we’ve planned the biggest party on the planet with the idea of bringing an outstanding lineup of iconic entertainers from Canada and the world including the United States, Russia and France. We’ve also introduced a digital element to the show where spectators will be surrounded by images projected on stages and screens,” says Bill Avery, Stampede Grandstand Show director and producer. “In total there are over 400 high definition video panels.”
Ta’Rea Campbell, recently from The Lion King on Broadway where she starred in the lead role of Nala, will take the stage for the first time in Canada joining The Young Canadians in an unforgettable musical experience offering everything from African and gospel tunes to jazz influences to contemporary rock and pop to hip-hop.
“This production is totally out of my element and I’m so excited to be a part of such a unique event,” says Campbell. “I’m starting a new chapter in my life after five years of The Lion King so this role is the once-in-a-lifetime challenge I was looking for. I can’t wait to get to Calgary to meet the cast and begin rehearsals.”
The Grandstand Show’s line-up for 2010 features:
• Eva Avila rocked the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and the top of Canada’s pop charts.
• We feature Daniel ‘Da FunkyMystic’ Celebre, one of the principal dancers from Michael Jackson’s concert that was never held, This Is It.
• Tim Nutt is this year’s international top comedian from Montreal’s Just For Laughs comedy festival.
• From France, the winners of the Princess Grace award at the Monaco Festival of the Arts, Laetitia and Artur, bring the beauty of amazing silk aerial ballet to the show.
• From the Cirque du Soleil show Quidam comes the artistry of The Barre Russe: The Russian Bar is a theatrical performance which combines the gymnastic skills of the balance beam, trampoline, uneven bars and parallel bars. The bar (or barre) is a flexible vaulting pole around four-metres long, typically made of fibreglass.
• From the world of extreme sport we host two international dirt bike superstars. The Calgary Stampede Extreme Dream Team will fly over the stage with the greatest of ease and The Dominquez Daredevils, a family of stunt riders from Columbia, will travel at high speeds inside a steel globe defying gravity.
• Using the Calgary Stampede Dream Flight Aerial System, The Four Horsemen of the Air will be conveyed on motorcycles high above the crowds.
• Fireworks and special effects flood the sky at the award winning TransAlta Lights Up The Night fireworks finale.
• The world renowned Young Canadians of the Calgary Stampede perform.
• The Booming Tree Japanese Taiko drummers will practice Taiko, the art of Japanese drumming, while flying through the air.
The Grandstand Show is an 80-minute spectacular produced by Bill Avery, directed and choreographed by Brian Foley, musical direction by Dave Pierce, production design by Pierre Marleau and costume design by Angela Dale.
The show performs rain or shine, every night during the Calgary Stampede following the GMC Rangeland Derby.
